Trust me, you'll know when you shouldn't lay on your stomach. It hurts to.

This is just a matter when it gets too uncomfortable for you.
I myself am 10 weeks pregnant with twins and can still lie on my stomach. Though I don't do it much since it causes some backpains.
When you start to have a little bump, you will find it uncomfortable to be on your tummy and that's when you should stop.

It's still early, and although all the above are good answers.
You should stop now to habituate yourself into not sleeping on your stomache. Don't wait. If have the habit of rolling over to your back in your sleep, start changing that now. If you sleep on your back after your gained a good amount of pregnancy weight you can very well cut off the blood pressure to the main artery running through your back, thus limiting oxygen to your child.
This site will help you understand what are the best sleeping positions while pregnant: http://www.gynob.com/leftside.htm
Good Luck and Oh congratulations!

My doctor told me that by about 16 weeks I should stop laying on my stomach because it can put increased pressure on the uterus. It became uncomfortable for me before that though.
Your doctor will cover all of this with you at your appointments.
Congratulations!!!

i havnt been told a certain time, but i would get used to laying on your side now, preferably your left, as its not recommended to lay on your stomach ( dont know how you could when your big anyway!) or to lay on your back! im 39 wks 2 days, and still wake up laying on my back, i get short of breath so i just roll over onto my side again, its all you can do!,, the best of luck to you.

the books I've read say around 16 weeks. I was "able" to sleep on my tummy for a few weeks after that, but then it definitely gets uncomfortable. My advice would be to try to get used to sleeping on your side early so it's not so tough when you are forced to sleep that way. Pillows help a lot.
Good luck!

Congratulations! To answer your question, you'll know when because it will be very uncomfortable. I say not until about the 3rd or even 4th month.
