For the past couple of months, I get home at about midnight after an 8-9 hour shift, if I'm lucky I crash be before 1am, if I'm not lucky I'll be up past 5am (unlucky about 2.5 times a week)

I snap awake at 5am sharp. It's insane, I wake up at 5am so consistently, no matter where I sleep, or even if I go to sleep before midnight (no alarm clock).
It really does feel like I'm snapping awake, like I've been plunged into water or getting smacked in my face, and from the second I get up, I'm fully awake, it's literally my most lucid time of the day. There's no point in me trying to stay in bed past 5am, I feel physically sick if I do.

It causes a big problem for me, because I will feel all of a sudden tired, and exhuasted at 1pm, on the dot. I will go from bright eyed to eye bags in moments. I will need a nap really bad, it'll be dangerous for me to drive.

does anyone else have this problem or had or have suggestions for me? Getting to sleep isn't as hard as staying asleep.

that is tough, sounds as if you need to re-train your body to sleep.

it is not unusual to stay awake for a bit when you get home, your body is unwinding, i used to work midnight to 8am, and had the same problem. allow yourself that time. take a hot shower, take either warmed milk, catnip tea or valerian root capsules then go to sleep. when you jump up at 5am, take some more of what you took before and try to go back to sleep. make sure you are not hungry, that always keeps me awake, just take a piece of toast or somthing with carbs. not a lot, you dont want to gain weight. make sure your sleeping area is dark, and quiet, maybe a fan providing white noise to eliminate day time noises of others getting up to go to work. try not to nap, or if you have to, make sure it is only for 30 minutes or so.

it is tough to be so tired, and to retrain, but you need to get the sleep. hopefully, the natural stuff will do the trick. but you need to turn yourself around..i would try the perscription stuff as an absolute last resort, just long enough to get yourself into a good sleep pattern.

good luck

Have you tried melatonin? It's in the vitamin aisle in the stores. It helps you regulate your sleep pattern by resetting your internal clock. Try that and see if it helps. If that doesn't help, I would go to the doctor. Sleep deprivation is a serious matter, and it can affect your health as well as your performance when you're awake. Good luck!

Actually, I have a sleeping disorder to. I have two jobs. I go home at 10 and sleep at around 2:30 AM and have to wake up at 6. My problem is I can't sleep.

Are you stressed out? Are you thinking of something? Go to your physician and ask for help
