I work at a hotel, and I am here for 8 hours a day. When I first started, we were allowed to sit on a chair. Today I come in to work and I am told that we have to stand the WHOLE time. We can not sit at all. So, to sit, I have to go to the bathroom. Is it bad that I am not happy about this? Is it wrong for them to make us stand for 8 hours straight? What is your opinion on this whole thing?

Its not like I sit the whole time. I stand when we have customers, but when there is nothing to do, then I would like to sit for a bit. My knees and my back are bad as it is, standing all day is not going to help.

legalled aren't you entitled to a 15 minute break every 3 hours? i thought that was the law? it might even be half an hour
but that's ridiculous, ofcourse you're going to get tired. towards the end of your shift you'll be so exhausted you'll be less productive anyway. they're making a mistake that's costing them as a business

I'm not sure if the rule of not sitting for 8 hours has a literal or implied meaning. If literally, I think that is absurd. Employees are not made for the policies, it is the policies that are to be made for the employees. If the rule was set and it implies that "no sitting around talking / chatting / long coffee breaks" (you know some employees really do this), then I think the rule is just right.

You don't explain what exactly you do at the hotel.
I mean if you're by the reception, it's silly not being allowed to sit.
But if you are a waitress, it makes perfect sense that you must stand most of the time...

I don't know were you live but here we are entitled to a break every 2 hours. Go on line and check your labour laws.
