usually a problem with the swim bladder, think its treatable.
Unless its a catfish?? alot of species will swim upside down on the surface to catch food.

Hmmm... a few things could cause this. Chech the following: -
1. Is everything else in the room also upsidedown?
If so, you are standing on your head.
2. Does it move at all?
If not, it has turned into a crysallis and needs to be fluched down the toilet where it will end up in the sea and can turn into a whale
3. Is it upside down on the bottom of the tank?
There may be no water in the tank. Fill it up and give the fish mouth to mouth
Hope these help ;-)

I had a guppy who swam right side up, got a disease, was cured and happy, but then stuck upside down! i thought he was going to die but he tought himself how to eat, swim normaly and float upside down. I thought it was pretty cool. Then he slowly progressed and started swimming sideways and then after a month or two was right side up again! But shortly after that he got a disease and died:(

That is bladder control and unfortunately it sounds as if it is too late to do anything for it. If caught early you can get treatment for Bladder control. You need to take it to the vet. I sat up all night with one of my large koi trying to keep it upright and help it to no avail. Sorry

I need some additional information. At least what kind of fish is it. There are some gastrointestinal issues that can affect this. There is an "upsidedown catfish" that swims in that manner. Please advise

Your fish has a bladder problem. Dissolve 2 teaspoons of salt in his tank water, this will fix this problem most of the times.
