The baby at this age needs more tending to. Feeding is very important. You will find as time goes on the baby will sleep more through the night so just be patient. Babies just require alot of milk (formula or breast milk during this time. Their metabolism is a lot faster in the beginning and the nourishment goes right through them} You should notice in the next few weeks that the baby will sleep longer and longer at nighttime, Just make sure that baby is burped when you put him/her down. Congratulations and just remember to take an extra nap in the day when the baby does. Let daddy take a turn in the night time too if possible. He can at least bring the baby to you.
Do not let the baby sleep with you. You can get a bassinet to put in your room for now if that helps.

Removing most stimuli is a good place to start - overhead/bright lights, music that isn't soothing, that sort of thing.
You'll find that most times, the baby will sleep best after feeding - so if the baby is breast fed, just make sure mom is comfortable and let baby go to town - just remember to change the diaper before feeding or when switching sides.
For bottle fed babies, it's the same thing, except this might be a good time for the other partner to feed the baby and get some bonding time in there.
My wife and I like to get the infants to sleep by using our rocking chair, which is comfy for us and the rocking helps soothe the baby.
Good luck!

Its hard. My son is 7 weeks and he fights sleep right till the end. After hes asleep hes been giving me like a 5 hour stretch. With time you will get to sleep longer. (If you really want to get some sleep try putting hte baby in your bed with you) Its a bad habbit, but they do sleep longer knowing they are close to you! Its worked for me! (I need to stop doing that lol) Good luck!

Make sure they are fed, clean clothes and diaper, you can rock them , but that becomes a habit for them that is hard to break, hold them close so they can hear your heartbeat...it is what they are used to!, soft music in the room might be helpful
