As a web developer, I really despise that IE 7 replaces IE 6. Because IE has traditionally been a terrible browser, this makes it very hard to check for cross-browser "aesthetic compatibility". For the average user, there isn't anything in IE 7 that cannot be had in the Yahoo! toolbar for IE 6 (tabs and RSS I believe are the main selling point for IE 7, features that were born years ago).
As a side note, I now use IE 7 on my desktop PC and IE 6 on my notebook. It's a pain, but it's something that I've been forced to do.
Edit: I forgot to add that if you do decide to take the plunge and upgrade, you can always roll back to IE 6 without a hitch (or so MS claims) by uninstalling via the control panel "Add/Remove Programs".

Frankly, there are not alot of differences. As others have said, the primary selling points are the tabbed browsing and a few enhanced security features. Realistically, they are not all that worth it. I did upgrade for a while, just because i was curious, but then found out that QuickBooks does not support the new browser so I went back to IE6. I do not really miss IE7 all that much. It was more of an annoyance to me than it was a help. As far as security goes, there are wonderful programs out there that offer the same security and IE6 is fairly secure, for IE of course. There are much better browsers out there, like Firefox which I use at home.
It is not really all that necessary to upgrade, unless you want to get rid of the annoying little ads for it when you go to Yahoo. Otherwise, I would stick to IE6 for at least a few more months, if not for a year or more, until they really get all the bugs worked out of IE7 (and trust me, there are many that should have been worked out in beta testing but weren't).

it blows 6 away. Just do the tour that comes with it, because there is a learning curve because things have been moved around. The guy that can't find the history button is a perfect example of those that hate it because they can't take ten minutes out of their day and learn where things are. (your favorites, history and RSS feeds are right there when you click on the BIG GOLD STAR!) He just condemns the whole thing without learning. The browser has a lot of great new features, and it is far more secure than IE 6.
there are no bugs. They beta tested for a year and a half, longer than any other piece of software in Microsoft's history.
Bottom line. do the upgrade, do the tour, learn it, use it for an hour. If you hate it, download firefox and use that. Firefox is a great browser too. If you miss IE6 there is a theme you can download that makes firefox look EXACTLY like IE6. do that if it makes you feel better. Either way, put that horrible 5 year old security threat, IE6, in it's grave where it belongs.

I like it. If offers added security, just as fast, and tab browsing finally. One thing you may not like right off the bat is the Menu Bar. However there is a tweak to change it back to more of the old IE look.

IE and Frefox suck, basicly they hog RAM like I hog Jack Daniels. My advice would be so which you may place in Opera 9. speedier than the two Firefox and IE and additionally makes use of much less RAM. enjoy!
