In many places baby walkers are actually illegal because they've been show to provide no benefit to the child and introduce a great risk to them, especially from falling down stairs or steps. I'd recommend avoiding them.
All 3 of my kids walked before 10 months without the aid of a walker. As cute as it is to see kids walking early, enjoy the time while they're less mobile (and less prone to pulling everything off the tables). They'll all walk eventually - no need to rush it along.

Baby walkers are not recommended to use for more than 20 minutes a day. According to specialists, they "confuse" a baby by altering the natural way they step and may cause some children to take longer to learn walk. Didn't use them for my two boys and they were both walking at 11 months. Once they start walking you can barely keep up, why bother putting them in a contraption that will get them moving sooner.

well i bought my children one of those walkers were they sit in the middle, that never helped either of them at all, infact by the time my son could touch the floor with his feet he had been walking four months!!! But my mum bought my daughter one of those push along walkers for her 1st christmas and she was walking within a month so i think they deffinately help. The other types i think also encourage them to walk on their tip toes which is no good. The push ones just give them some thing to lean on.

I used one for all 4 of my children and it didn't make them any lazier..some babies just are naturally lazy and don't want to do anything~ My younger brother is a PRIME example of this..he didn't crawl he dragged himself across the floor like he was a combat soldier! He didn't walk until almost 2~
My thoughts on walkers is it helps them learn to problem solve ~ watch them "walk themselves into a corner" ...they have to figure out...How did I do that? and how do I get out?! I also think it helps strengthen their leg muscles! I know alot of people are against them..but I would use one today...if I still had babies!

The actual old style walkers are recommended against. They are thought to be dangerous. Also, bare feet as opposed to walking shoes are preferred by alot of pediatricians now.
I think the best way is to let them criuse along furniture or walk them with thier hands in yours.

In Ontario baby walkers are illegal because they are found to be dangerous. I never used one for my 2 oldest and they walked b4 their first b-day. I used an exersaucer for the 3rd child and she walked at about 13 mos. Every child is different.
