When the headlights are off both of the brake lights work fine. However, when the headlights are on and you hit the brakes, one of the brake lights doesn't come on. What is causing this? Is this just a fuse problem or a larger electrical issue?

Sounds like a ground issue in the bulb itself, when your lights are on brake light is grounding through marker light side of bulb.Try changing the bulb if it is a three way bulb.(that is the bulb is a turn signal, brake light, markerlight all in one.)

The most likely problem is your fluid level. There is a sensor in the reservoir for the fluid. If the fluid is low the sensor sends a signal to the on-board computer which in turn will alert you with a light on the dash. The brake light and ABS light come on together in this situation because both systems rely on the brake system to control the car when you apply the brake. The fluid level doesn't have to be that low to initiate the warning lights. There may not be anything wrong with your brakes or ABS system. Check the fluid level and definitely fill it to the full mark so you can be sure the sensor is satisfied. If the lights go out have a nice day. If the lights stay on after filling the fluid have it checked out by a reputable shop.

Hello, I work for a carquest parts store and see this very common. It's usually just the bulb has gone out and needs to be replaced, best thing is to replace both tail/stop lamp bulbs as they are the same age.

Sounds like a bad bulb...those are dual element lamps ...replace the brake light bulbs....they're cheap and only take a few minutes to do.
