Every year I have my kids' picture taken and put on an ornament at the photo studio for my Dad for a gift... and it FINALLY came in yesterday so I went last night to pick it up. I'd already paid for it, so they just handed it to me without a receipt and as I was leaving the store, some 90 year old greeter grabbed my arm and accused me of stealing. I tried to explain that I got it at the photo studio and he's like "And how do I know THAT?" and I'm like "It has my kids picture on it- do you SELL pictures of MY kids on these shelves?" and I think I used the "f" word in there somewhere too.. and he's like "how do I know those are your kids?" and I just pointed at my daughter. So then he told me I was getting too smart with him and I had to talk to the cop.

Stupids.

I was once accosted at the door by some silly greeter because the buzzer/voice went off and said I had "activated the security device" or some such. The elderly bat was not fleet enough to catch the person ahead of me who I assume had set it off (I had no purchases--I had gone to pick up a particular paint which was out of stock). The old witch hung on my arm and screeched for the cop who arrived. They were of the opinion that they should search me/arrest me (they seemed to think there was reason to empty my purse). Fortunately a manager showed up, saw that while I was really angry I also was writing every ones name, the times and some quotes on a pad I DO carry in that 'big ole purse'. I was also telling them that I was going to be very well compensated for whatever they decided to do. He opted to let me go. It was a very long time before I went in Wal-mart. I did eventually go back though. I live in a small town with few stores. Sometimes the choice is Wal-mart or drive 90 miles. So you are not alone, Good luck!

That's pretty lame. I guess they're getting stricter and more paranoid now with the holidays, though.

I have seen folks try and steal stuff from WalMart though - hide it in amongst other things in their shopping cart, etc. This woman was having a whole hissy fit about her stuff and whether it was paid for (it wasn't, I saw that there were a few things in her cart she didn't show to the cashier), the "greeter" stopped her, then they had to call over a manager. She tried to remedy it, saying OK, OK, fine, I'll pay. And they were like, "no, it's too late for that now. We've already called the cops." Pretty scary stuff.

But that's ridiculous when they get overly strict as in your situation...

They are a bunch of idiots, they do this to test you and get you really nervous, the more nervous your, the more you will seem guilty.

I had the same problem some time ago.
I just told her,
Lets go back to the original store clerk, and we will have a conversation.
I refused to explain anything to her.
then when the clerk explained.
I demanded to see the store senior manager.
I explained to them that if the store clerks did their work properly I would not be here, and you would not have this conversation.

Now it was my turn, I asked them all, what are you going to do so this does not happen again to me or anyone else?

At the end, they gave me a gift certificate for being harassed.

Sounds like just bad timing to me. 5 more minutes and he would have been sitting at the McDonalds within the Wal-Mart sipping coffee and snacking on a Big Mac or a bacon egg & cheese biscuit...mmm... I'll be back!

I hate Walmart, I went to have copies made of a picture of my daughter when she was 9 months old. She only had on a diaper.(this was taken 30 years ago) Walmart refused to make copies and take the original and reported me to the police and said the picture was child porn. It was my daughter for goodness sake!
They don't have the right to do that do they?
