Technically ours is Luna. But for some reason, no one ever uses the name.

Well our Primary moon usually referred to as "THE MOON" is called Luna. We have a much more miniscule moon discovered in 1994 called Kreithne , this signifies to me that the reason we call our moon the moon is that people just aren't bothered using its scientific name

Earth only has one moon. Some other planets have more than one. By giving them names, scientists are able to easily identify them or refer to them.

Because we named ours first and then applied that same word/concept to all the other moons that we discovered.
The Latin word "luna" directly translates to the English word "moon."

Because Earth have only one moon, therefore you know which one you refer to. Other planets have few, I guess, to distinguish which one is which.
Interesting, though, in russian we call it Luna, and the word "moon" means "satellite" (natural satellite)

Our moon's name is Luna and the sun is Sol. That's where we get the terms lunar and solar from to describe things related to them.
