It depends on which set of the books you have. Originally, the set was released with The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe as the first book and The Magician's Nephew was down the list. But recently the set has been issued in the correct chronological order: The Magician's Nephew (which explains the creation of Narnia, the origins of the White Witch, and the growth of the lamppost), followed by The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (which explains the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross and His triumphant return).
