top it up with diesel and drive it...

back in the not so good old days diesel went waxy as it got closer to freezing point... and we used to either build a fire beneath the tank, or we'd add some petrol...

yes you can spend a fortune and take it to the dealers who will rip you off... possibly to the tune of over 500 quid.

diesel engines wil run on petrol, petrols wont run all that well on diesel.... but they do...

and dont do it again!

you can get away with a few gallons of petrol to a full tank of diesel, (dilute the petrol down as much as possible). A lot of people are doing this in the super markets filling stations, i think because they are so busy that you can get flustered or your mind is on all the goods bought in the store, any way it is now so regular that the closest garage will have a vac pump for the job of sucking the bulk of contaminated fuel out, even display their phone No at the pay area. Once the bulk is out fill with clean diesel and job done.

drain the fuel system completely and use an air line to blow contaminated fuel out.

Replace the fuel filter and fill with diesel. Refill the tank fully with diesel and crack open the injector pipes. Or injector pipe if common rail, spin over and flush the diesel through. Tighten all pipes and spin her over, she will start, may sound like a bag of poo to start with, its just getting rid of the final dregs of petrol. With a VAG diesel, don't touch the throttle for at least 10 mins of they have a habit of stalling when you have changed the filter.

The modern diesel will cope with having the wrong fuel in, we had a CRV CTDi with the tank filled with 3/4 of petrol, ran like a sack of Cak, but it was fine.

I have yet to come accross a diesel that is fooked from having the wrong fuel pumped in. And I have done around 15 wrong fill recoveries for customers.

Try a Tank of diesel and a new filter and she'll probably be okay!

Half filled with petrol is too much for a diesel engine. Petrol is too volatile to be used in that much concentration in a diesel engine. Drain as much as you can from the fuel tank and refill with diesel before driving. Some petrol does help to remove an paraffin wax build up.

turn it off asap, don't want the petrol to damage the fuel pump. Need to drain the tank and get the petrol out of the system.

turn the engine off, as long as none of the petrol has been sucked through the pump you can save the car. you need to syphon the petrol out of the tank asap.

If petrol is already in the system and engine, you could be screwed, it could mean a new engine.

in the adventure that your gas is operating lean, then you actually have thanks to a lot air on your gas/air mix. you may opt for to check out that. Now, i'm no longer particular the thanks to do it. yet my husband ans his buddies artwork on autos continuously. My husband is going as far as hooking up the motor vehicle to our computer and runs exams on the motor vehicle (because it truly is were given some stuff carried out to it) and at the same time as it runs lean, it has too a lot air contained in the ratio (again). there is a few thing that a mechanic can do with a pc application that would fix that and not in any respect make it run so lean. desire this helps rather.

once it reaches the engine it will sputter to a stop. you will have to have it drained and replace your filters. it should not run long enough to do any real damage. Don't drive it. Get it taken care of it will cost you several hundred dollars if some one does it for you.
If you do it yourself please dispose of the bad fuel properly at a service stationor at a paint reclamation center.

No.

The costs of repair depend on whether its a td, tddi, or tdci.
The tdci may cost a small fortune to repair, as you may have caused damage to a lot of the injection system.

Whatever you do don't run the car as this will cause further damage, you will need to get your tank drained and flushed, get in contact with your local garage as you may need to have it collected.
