Ezzi,

let's look at the pros and cons of both.

Verizon : US landlocked CDMA technology (which if you want a GSM/CDMA phone for international travel....take out a loan.)

CDMA is outdated, and just got it's rear end passed by Cingular's 3G UMTS network as it's tied in with their current GSM network which rivals Verizon's total package just by itself.

I've never personally carried Verizon myself...but I've had plenty of friends and business partners that have, and I've heard plenty of complaints. Both with coverage, and crappy phone production.

Also, I've gotten soooo many bad messages left on my phone's voice mail (or over our company messenger) from Verizon phones when someone was travelling it's pathetic.

They cover 90% of America (as they say at least)....and while that may be true....I can't say from experience that their coverage is rock-solid by any means.

Now, Cingular has rollover which is a nice "safety net" feature of their service....you get to keep what you paid for. Verizon offers no such thing.

Coverage wise....I can't complain about them. I almost never have a dropped signal (I also don't buy cheap b.s. phones either)
and I travel a LOT. East to west coast, northeast to south and back again....and I've never run into any guff with those guys. Hence, why I've been a loyal customer for 6+ years now....I for one have had no issues with the AT&T corporate takeover and restructuring of the company.

Now, for international travel....GSM and WCDMA are the standards outside of US coastal shores. GSM moreso, but one will find WCDMA is Asia, Africa, etc.

Verizon phones have NO such WCDMA coverage.....and as I said earlier, their GSM dual-band phones will cost you a kidney.

Now, Cingular's 3G UMTS network has phones that are not only quad-band GSM (i.e., they work on all 4 world-band mhz freq's), they also function on 2100 mhz (I think this is the band) of WCDMA for usage in rural Japan, Korea, China, and parts of Africa.

Now, with that....they've also made these phones very affordable....which again, is something Verizon has not.

Also, the data transfer rate for mobile internet is killing what their current 2nd generation Edge GSM phones can do. Whether it's full out 'net via a Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA or a simple Opera browser connection via Nokia's products....

It's fast, very fast. I carry a HTC 8525 PDA from Cingular, and it's the ONLY PDA I've seen that can even come close to rivalling the speed of my 4G Motorola/Docomo handset, the Foma M1000 that I use when I'm in Tokyo on business (I'd use it stateside too....but the majority of it's usage is blocked by American technology lacking.)

If you're going to go with anyone, Cingular would my top reccomendation.

I went through both companies and currently work for Sprint. Between the two, Verizon has much better customer service, phones, and coverage areas. But with Cingular you get more for the dollar. It's alot cheaper. I had Verizon 2 years ago, 1 month I went on vacation to the mountains and couldn't use my phone for 5 days. I called verizon customer service, and they subtracted 15% off my bill. They're phones are much more better, for example, the LG Voyager, has a higher satisfactory rate than the riduclous iPhone. That phone has been going through call backs ever since it was put on the market. So the answer is verizon by far. Hope I helped!

I can't tell you about Verizon, but I can tell you that we had *nothing* but bad experiences after AT&T Wireless was taken over by Cingular...I'd be a whole day writing about the nonsense we dealt with from Cingular "Customer Service"...

both verizon and cingular are ok.
BUT, if you usually go outside US, i would prefer cingular because cingular works on GSM and GSM is the usual technology used in most countries. of course, you have to apply for their roaming service.

As far as coverage goes, Verizon is far superior to any other carrier.

I have Cingular and can't complain about them except for their lack of coverage in many areas.

I've used verizon for the past 7 years and haven't had any problems. I travel all over the US and never lost connection.
Although, be careful on what you buy. I had some bad ones! Stay away from the phones with mp3 support.
