We did all the right things you mentioned, but we did our share of wrong things too. We allowed the factories to pollute the air, water, and the earth they sat on. We drove cars that polluted the air really badly. We put stuff in dumps that they still haven't got cleaned up. We dumped our used motor oil and toxic chemicals without regard for the future. We heated our homes with coal. Remember the snow turning black in just a couple of days? We did recycle bottles, we walked a bit more, but we wasted a lot of the electricity that was generated by mega polluting, coal fired power plants. Razors? Do you remember where those rusty blades went? Sewage? We just sent it down the river to the next town. I remember the river running yellow. The factory smoke so bad it made the whole town sick. We did our share of polluting, and very little of the recycling. We have no room to get self important about it.
