I live near New York City. I see lots of great jazz shows there. One of the best bands I've seen and heard on album is The John Ellis groups. I saw him with Jason Marsalis on drums, Roland Geurin on bass, Robert Glasper on piano and Mike Moreno on guitar. It was so good that at times I just started laughing. Seriously.
This is his best album, in my opinion-http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:369ds32wa3pg
