IF THIS IS A GAS FURNACE,CHECK YOUR EXHAUST VENTILATION FOR OBSTRUCTION AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF PIPE.CO2 BUILD UP IN THE HOUSE COULD BE THE CAUSE OF YOUR ALARMS GOING OFF,IF THEY MONITOR CO2 LEVELS ALSO.IMPROPER ALIGNMENT OF PIPE EXHAUST OR AN OBSTRUCTION IN THE PIPE COULD BE THE PROBLEM.ALSO DON'T HIRE A PLUMBER TO WORK ON YOUR FURNACE.HIRE A HVAC REPAIR MAN.

The high pressure/temperature sounds like a couple things. The operating control should only be set at a maximum of 180F. The boiler should only maintain this. If the control is turned up higher, turn it down to 180. If it set lower already, it may be defective (shorted contacts) and needs to be replaced immediately. This may explain the higher pressure. The expansion tank may not be able to handle the expansion of the water at the higher temperature or if it is a standard compression type tank, it may be flooded and needs to be drained.

If your smoke detector is going off, your flue and/or chimney probably needs to be cleaned or he didn't do a good job cleaning the boiler. Have it looked at immediately.

Do yourself a favor - don't call a plumber to look at it. Call an HVAC company. My experience has shown me most plumbers don't know much about heating and have no business working on most heating equipment.
