Ethernet is a type of LAN. I don't know what you mean by broadband ethernet card, there is no such thing but oh well. you can have wireless cards for wireless LAN, you can also have Ethernet cards for an Ethernet LAN. the point is having the same type of card on both computers.

Are you referring to connect 2 or more PCs together via a local area network?
Make sure the PCs are physically connected via LAN cables or Cat 5 cables and they are in the same workgroup to be able to share files or connect togather

For a wired network, each PC needs an Ethernet card. (NIC).
