snowboard grinding is harder because if your doing a boardslide on a skateboard, the board is curved along the width of it so you cant catch an edge, and it makes it easier to balance. snowboards are pretty much flat along the width, so you have to work harder to keep the board flat on the rail.

Besides the obvious (you're feet are attached, you're on snow, and the jibs are usually bigger), it's similar. There is less need for ollies, as most jibs have a little kicker to get you up. Although a controlled pop off the lip of the jump always seems better to me...

The friction between your waxed snowboard and the metal on most rails and boxes is much less than a skate deck on a rail, so just keep your weight centered accordingly. It's always easier to bail on a snowboard than a skate deck, for sure. I mean, it's attached to your feet, if you're not feeling it when you're sliding a rail, you can bail and ride away. And snow is alot more forgiving than concrete!

Never skateboard so can't tell you how similar it is, although i can tell you it's not very hard. Obviously for a easy one, your go nose first over the rail... just straight down the rail... paralleling your board with it. all you have to do is worry about your balance from side to side. if you want to hit it sideways, nose off to the left tail off to the right, then it's a little harder, you have to worry about yoru balance and you have to keep in mind to lean slightly back on your board as to not catch the front edge of the board on the rail and faceplant into it, possibly losing teeth. It usually doesn't happen but if you do lean to far forward and you have a nice clean recently sharpened edge for carving, it can catch, especially if the rail is not completely smooth, aka... rust or other defects in it. Depending on the quality of rail and mountain you go to. Those are just the basics, of course there's more tricks you can do on rails, but I figure learning those first would be a good start! ... Good luck!

There is even less friction on a snowboard. Gotta hold the baord right underneath you and dont push outward.
