Im a white guy. I have personally known many Chinese people over the years, both male and female. I've always liked them, they seen friendly and decent people. Ive had work colleagues who are Chinese. The problem that Ive had is that Ive had all the signals they want to be friends, but then suddenly they dont want to know.

For example a chinese colleague asked me to stay in touch with her. I email her then get no reply. I ask her if she got the email and she said "Yes". Then later on, I get an email asking for me to meet her and she had booked a place for us to meet. I met her we had a great night out, no probs. Then I emailed her and thanked her for arranging everything. Then I got no reply. I havent heard from her since.

Ive got relatves and friends who have experienced the same problem in that they think they are great friends with a chinese person, then they suddenly dont wanna know.

Is this because Chinese prefer not to mix with white people? Id like to know.

Thanks

Based on my experience this is what has happened. Im not saying ALL Chinese people behave like this - i'm not that narrow minded. Im saying that based on my life, and my family and friends' experiences this has frequently happened. Since my school days right up to now.

Thanks guys.

What I have experienced is them being really friendly, good friends.. But it gets to a point there is no communication anymore. I realise people can be busy...but after no emails for years its an obvious "I dont want to know" thing, rather than being too busy.

I have got this "hot and cold" thing. It seems like they wanna be friends, but there is something in the way and they wouldnt feel comfortable about continuing..but I'm guessing. At university I had a good male friend (chinese). We were good friends and he would always suggest going out, meeting up. But when I asked when it would be "err im working im not sure". LOL!!

Thanks guys for all your answers. I hope noone is offended and Im not putting down all chinese people at all :-).

Thanks Glo - good answer.

There are lots of things about Chinese culture...but I wanna learn about their way of thinking not just the usual things about language, food, work etc. Im interested in what makes people what they are - they way they think. Thankyou eveyone.!!!

They have a different culture, and you could serve yourself some good to go to the library or do an Internet search. Understand their culture. They are very reserved people for the most part. And this may be where the confusion is coming into play. So if you would like to date a female that is Chinese you should do your homework. Good luck and God bless****

Huh? Really? I am a Chinese but I never do that to my friends, if I dont like someone, I simply stop talking to them..hmm..now I know why I dont have friends here, I tried to contact my so-called friends after graduation but yeah, they never replied or phoned back, so I ended up building pretty decent friendships online with people from all over the world. And hey, they replied.

no its not. I am a white person. and i have allot of Chinese friends. They do want to mix with the white people. Its just the sometimes do not have time to answer emails. My Chinese friends have allot to do so they don't really have time to meet me. but when we do talk its great. allot of Chinese may not feel comfortable around the whites, but they are not avoiding us.

I can see why they don't like you because you're generalizing millions of people based on a handful of people. I can easily tell that it's a handful by the way you're phrasing this question.

Has it occurred to you that maybe they have things going on in their lives?

I enjoy white people more than other Asian people because I can relate to them more as I've grown up very Americanized so I don't believe in or appreciate your ridiculous opinion.

I don't know, man.. But I've definitely noticed it, too.

Weird, huh?

They prefer their own people more.
