Hmm...decorating the house and the tree, waiting for winter break, having snowball fights at night with the Christmas lights shining from all the houses on our block, trying to guess what presents I was going to get, running around the house with my cousins on Christmas eve-we would all gather at one house-while our parents were having coffee, and that wonderful feeling I got when I would wake up on the 25th realizing that it was Christmas....

Wow, I was just thinking about this the other day. I miss the excitement and anticipation. The joy and happiness I felt as the day grew near. I'm still happy during Christmas, but it's just not the same.

I miss the anticipation and the illusion of Christmas.
Everything always seemed so special and perfect. Now that I'm an adult, I look back on it and see that it was just that my parents made it seem that way.
I miss believing in Santa.

Sleepless nights...getting up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve to peek at the presents under the tree, and make sure they didn't go anywhere.
Also, my twin brother waking everyone up at 5am, and then waiting for our mom to make her coffee before opening our presents. The aniticpation was killer, but that was what I missed the most.

Hunting for presents with my older sister around the house.
Waking up at 5 am on Xmas morning and opening my stocking. A Torch, Chocolate Santa and an orange were standard issue as my mum's stockings fillers.

I miss my father, and 2 sisters who died over the years. But I have great memories. Having come from an abusive home, it was one of the only happy times of year in my family.

When you're a kid, you can get away with homemade and inexpensive presents......Mom and dad had to spend all the dough.
Now the shoe is on the other foot and I'm the one spending like a drunken sailor on shore leave!

The excitement of hearing Santa come up on my Grandparents porch. He would come in late at night. We were all eating, popping fireworks and roasting marshmallows---they'd call us inside to act like it was time to go to bed, then we'd here jingle bells and foot stomps on the porch---he'd come in and say"HO-HO-HO-Merry Christmas", then call each one of us up, by name and give us a present from him. There was about 30 of us, but he went youngest to oldest and boy was it exciting by the time he got to me...I'm the 6th one from the oldest and it was always worth the wait.
