I have a horrible pain in my right big toe joint when I bend it and also when its stationary. I also have pain on the top of my foot like a bruise but with no bruise colouring. The cold is making it more painful. Any ideas what this could be?

I have tendonitis in several of my joint. You do not have it.

You will only experience pain when the joint is moving if you have tendonitis not when it is stationary.

You could have bruised it, even though you don't see discoloration. You could have bruised it very deeply and you wouldn't see the discoloration or you did not break any blood vessels (thats caused the discoloration).

If you broke it, chances are you would have some sort of "lump" near where the majority of the pain is. But I don't think you did because there is mobility and no sign of bruising.

Chances are you sprained or twisted your toe. Is there a little swelling in the joint? Is the "meat" of your toe kind of firm? Then you have sprained it.

The best thing to do is wrap it up lightly in a guaze to keep it immoble and give it about 2 weeks. Try not to put too much weight on it, but don't stay completely off of it either.

Hi, Tendonitis of the foot actually affects the sole of the foot rather than the top, it sounds like you have either nerve or ligament damage, usually from wearing too tight shoes!!. The best thing to do is to protect it while wearing shoes by placing a foot pad (you get these from a good shoe shop or chiropodist )between your foot and the shoe, also try some ibuprofen gel rubbed on. I would recommend you see either a doctor or a podiatrist if it doesn't improve or gets worse.

Tendinitis tenderness can slow you down and cramp your lifestyle. What can you do to calm the inflammation and ease the pain? According to research or other evidence, the following self-care steps may be helpful:

Could be gout. Have your blood uric acid level checked. In the meantime stay away from nuts, fried food, sea foods, and vegetables with seeds, even strawberries.

could be what others have described but could be circulation trouble causing lack of blood to reach the muscle called intermittent cluadication, hope its not as surgery is required to repair damage, smoking, drinking are the most causes but can also be inherited from family

I'm going to apologise in advance for this one, because it sounds as if Paddington Bear accidentally trod on your foot and this is the horrific aftermath - "TEDinITIS".

sounds like you may have a small fracture of your metatarsal. Have you dropped something on your foot, or kicked something lately?
