These are common habits, so do not feel guilty, but make a tremendous effort to stop. It will do wonders for your confidence and will prevent repeated nail infections.
Use these tips to help your friend or children stop biting their nails.
1. Be determined to stop.
2. Take pride in your hands; use hand lotion regularly.
3. Use scissors or an emery board on rough nails before your teeth get there.
4. Start by allowing one nail at a time to grow, then limit your biting to one nail until you have stopped
5. Ask your friends and family to remind you if they see you lapse into nail biting
6. Try the bitter-testing nail coatings, available at drugstores, or a clear nail polish.
7. Try bribery - treat yourself if you stop for a month
8. Pinpoint and try to reduce the cause of stress that leads you to nail biting
9. Keep any new nails smoothly filed to avoid the risk of losing them again
10. Try hypnotism or acupuncture.
Hope this can help your friend.....=]

I bite skin around my nails--looks terrible and of course hurts.More from this habit suffer my thumbs.Sometimes i get so desperate when think it's for ever and i'll never be able to get rid off this bad habit.I am 21,and once my boyfriend noticed it and asked what was it--i got so ashamed! So to cure it i use cream called 'Lorinden C' and manicure--polished nails stop me from biting skin,at least for a while.Aloe juice also helps.

I bite my nails a lot - but not to the extent that they bleed.
I find wearing nail varnish helps. I don't tend to bite them a lot if I'm wearing it. I've been reapplying it over the last week to get them to a reasonable length for Crimbo!!!

My boyfriend bites his nails right down to the skin. They are in a terrible mess but he doesn't care.

Not my nails, but the skin around them. It's a disgusting habit and I'm ashamed but I can't stop.
