Ironic comments on internet message boards aren't always easily distinguishible. Since others can't hear your tone of voice or see your expression, it's easy for some people to misinterpret sarcasm.

Irony...sarcasm...it's definitely lost on Y!A. I think this forum gets serious because many people have found that they can post an opinion. This opinion is probably not often sought out in their "real" world, so this forum offers the opportunity to be a "know-it-all" without references. So when someone posts something with a little humor, people really don't know how to respond, so they get serious. I look for those type of questions (excluding those bashing of another's race, religion or sexual orientation) to add a little humor and break the monotony.

Well, that's what you get for asking Americans. Ask a Swede. We'll "get it" and scare the hell out of you in the process.
