There aren't any rules, that's the point of the game!
Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mornington_Crescent_(game) for a complex explanation of the lack of rules!

Basically everyone starts at a station on the London Underground.
They may then move sideways, forwards, backwards, diagonally, or up if playing by 1997 convention rules.
If "in spoon" the player must go to a diagonal station, miss a turn, or if playing by Tudor rules, forfeit his codpiece. Left-handed players may take Northern line stations when in spoon, and players with a visual impairment are allowed to go sideways, if they can actually see any stations.
There are several "wild" stations that may be taken at any time; Pontoon Dock, Baker Street, and Seven Sisters, although only if you are playing with even numbers and using the 1901 revised rulebook. If not, Seven Sisters is out of bounds until in spoon and King's Cross/St. Pancras becomes wild. Green Park may be accessed if the player has an Irish accent - points are taken away for a bad impersonation, but only on the third Tuesday of the month or when the player cannot prove Irish ancestry.
Mornington Crescent may be reached if and only if the player has reached his quota of stations, does not cross diagonally over another player and is not in spoon, aside from when playing by 1974 standardised tournament rules, in which is is illegal to take Mornington Crescent except sidewyas, by the Northern line or simply by threatening all other players with a crossbow. Note, a normal bow or a gun will be regarding simply as threatening behaviour and will result in expulsion from the tournament.
Just kidding, there are no rules!

Yes, they tell you every time the game comes on the radio, the rules are easy, it's the same game we all used to play when we were little. You remember! Don't tell me you never played it as a child!
Only kidding! there are no rules, they make it up as they go along, that's the real and only rules!!

It's where a discussion thread goes right off topic, and mornington crescent is when someone, still following the discussion lines gets it back to the original thread. So I guess that you claim mornington crescent when you think you've got the thread sorted.

The joke is that there aren't any.
Just as it's unlikely Mrs.Trellis writes all those letters, and Samantha isn't really there!
Best show on the radio!

It's illegal to explain the rules.
You have to pick them up by playing along with a game.
