The conspiracy theory is that the Olympic, which was the sister ship of, and virtually identical to, the Titanic, but launched before, was in collision with a Royal Navy ship, HMS Bramble. The Navy said that the collision was the result of errors on the part of the Olympic's crew. The ship was found to be quite badly damaged when it was eventually dry docked and the Board of the White Star Line was concerned that no insurance payment would be made. White Star were facing a potential loss of £10million (at today's prices) with the Titanic not finished and Olympic not sea worthy. So the ship at Harland and Wolff to be called Titanic was finished as Olympic, with changes to her configuration to look like her sister, whilst Olympic was repaired as a bodged job and launched as Titanic with the deliberate intention that is should be sunk (thus enabling the insurance payment to be made) The conspiracy goes on to suggest that Titanic collided initially with another vessel, not an iceberg, that vessel and the Californian having been 'planted' by White Star to rescue the entire complement of passengers and crew of the Titanic, However, so the tale goes, things went wrong as a result of the unexpected collision with the 'rescue' ship. Everything on the Titanic had the Titanic hull number on it, as was found by the underwater discoverers in the 1980s and 90s. Or do you think all these numbers were planted there as the conspirators just knew it was going to be found after 70 years? LOL

Titanic sank. The Olympic was built at the same time as the Titanic and was launched first. She had a collision with a naval ship and had to be repaired. This caused the Titanic's maiden voyage (and last) to be delayed.

Well, we better get our navel vessels and fictional space ships strengthened out.
And please don;t go through life pursuing conspiracy theories unless, of course, they are really important to you.
