The U.N. was set-up by One World Government, communist types...see Alger Hiss, and as such a flawed concept was doomed from inception to fail. The only question remaining is how much damage will it do before it is...as it should be...dissolved!
Short of freeing up prime American real estate and the ejection of free loading, anti-freedom despots from American soil...The world will rejoice.

The United Nations will eventually cease to exist just as the League Of Nations did. The reason is because they have made themselves irrelevant in the ultimate scheme of world affairs. When a body is tasked with keeping world peace, but is unwilling to enforce their mandates they make themselves useless and lacking of any due consideration. The majority of UN resolutions are not even worth the paper they are written on. As to what will happen, I would say that there will be some anarchy in smaller 3RD world nations and eventually they would be replaced by another body. The world actually does need something like the UN, but it must be a body dedicated to it's founding principles which is fair and equitable to all. It must also possess the courage to act when action is required.

Scary! while the UN is obviously ineffective, it is almost a necessity to keep around and at least haphazardly maintain its integrity. realize that if the UN collapses, and it will, that a stronger world government will take its place. Just like all confederations, which is basically what the UN is, a world confederation, they eventually collapse (history repeats itself), and then you have the new world order.

does the UN work now? the UN is ineffective- it lacks credibility and is scorned amongst the major political, economic and military powers. i think the nations hardest hit by the demise of the UN would be the third or developing world and not many movers and shakers care too much about them anyway- how can you take Robert Mugabe seriously
