Peel a clove of garlic (forget the other clove, it will only numb the area for a short while until it stops working altogether), and cut it into a shape that will fit into your ear on the side of the offending tooth.
Please make sure the piece of garlic is big enough so it doesn't get lodged in your ear canal, before gently inserting it into your ear (again, not too deep). Cover it loosely with a plaster, and that's about it.
Garlic has both analgesic and antiseptic properties, so it should help you cope with the pain and inflammation whilst you are waiting to see your dentist.
You have made an appointment, right?
:)

It actually depends where the infection is. If it's just the gum then rinse with warm salt water,& take ibuprofen if it's the nerve & root canal (abscess) there is nothing anyone but the dentist can do. Local anaesthetic will not work until the infection has cleared up. Go back to your dentist, at the very least he may give you stronger painkillers. Edit. if you have been told it is an abscess do not put a hot water bottle on your face. It may well swell !

Sorry my friend, get ye to a dentist!
Can't get to one?....hmmm.
I broke a tooth, my front one, I couldn't go through life with half a front tooth. So I bit the bullet, explains the busted tooth(!), and got myself down the oral torturers. And I hate dentists!
...Or, a clove held over the offending area, or, hold a capful of whisky over the offending tooth. Repeat until sh*tfaced.

OK, maybe not home remedy but the best cure I have ever found (and thank the lord I did) was Piriton Syrup. Anti-histamine really but good to reduce swelling etc and works like a miracle. Try it and feel pain free, Happy Christmas you

well if you ain't driving or working machinery then a good belt of scotch whiskey works very nicely.. just take a gulp and hold in your mouth for a few Min's.. that will numb the area..
You could try bongella gel that works, and all so a holding mouth wash in your mouth helps too. Ultimately though you need to get to the dentist.. go on be brave..

Clove oil is the best. But it will only numb the pain and not cure the problem. For that you need a dentist.
If you can find 70% concentrated clove oil, its the best.Otherwise, you can dilute it with glycerine.Highly concentrated oil can burn the senitive skin of your inner cheeks.

Oil of cloves or hot water can help this. You should really get to a dentist and get these dealt with.
