substance, so if women can do whatever they want why can't men do whatever they want? Isn't that a double standard?

labscimaster, if women don't want to be treated like they're for sale then maybe they shouldn't put so much of themselves on display.....

This is a basic paradox. I think there is a lot of hypocrisy in both male and female behavior.

Look, it depends on how you're "hitting on" them. If you're being disrespectful, (which it sounds like you are) then it IS harassment. Why would expect any other reaction? Do you really think you're going to get a favorable response when you're calling women whores (whatever they may be wearing), or treating them like they're nothing?
(To paraphrase)-"Why can't men do whatever they want if women can do whatever they want? Isn't that a double standard?"...NO! It's VERY simple...your rights END where ANOTHER PERSON'S begin. Meaning someone has the right to wear whatever they want, (because it does not interfere with anyone else's rights) yet NO ONE has the "right" to put their hands on someone else, or "harass" them, this is an obvious violation of a person's rights. People have the "right" to expect that they will not be "assaulted" or harassed for their choice of dress, no one has the "right" to expect to be able to assault or harass people. Why do YOU feel like you should have "special rights" that run all over the rights of others? And "IcePrincess" is right, you ARE using their dress as an excuse to be disrepectful. There's no excuse.

i don't have an answer but i do pose a question. Are the women you're referring to dressing in cheap clothes then going to work and offering sex for money? Or they could be high class hookers that make thousands each time so they may dress nicely?? Is that what you mean by acting like whores? You should be an upstanding citizen and tape these requests and call the police at once! Can't have women whoring all over the place now can we?

Dude! What do you think the ladies of the night are for?! They really are for sale, if you want to touch and harrass someone, go harrass them and get no flack, you are just using the sexy dress, as an excuse. Its you males that rule society, so if you set the rules that lal women dress modestly then all women would dress that way right!!! Then what would you use as an excuse then, your just a dirty minded person. You need to get your mind out of the gutter. Wait until you have a daughter, and wonder if guys are touching or treating her the way you treat women.

I dress fairly conservatively and get hit on anyway. I don't think clothing is the issue here. In fact I get hit on the most when wearing jeans and at t-shirt at the coffee shop. Attractive women are going to get hit on no matter what they wear. Do I call it harrassment? No. It's harrassment when you go over the line and are ugly about it.

It's a matter of delivery of the hitting upon rather than the hitting upon itself. Perhaps you should take a look at your manners and tone of voice when you are talking to women if you find that they get upset or angry with you when you hit on them. Also check your hands...keep them to yourself unless invited otherwise. You are more likely got get a happy, positive response when you are respectful.

I get what you're saying...

but remember, sexual harassment is an entirely different ball game from being hit on. If a guy is hitting on a girl... she can always tell him off! but in cases of sexual harassment, she can't ( usually because his holds more power than she does)

PS: women are not the weaker sex. Both sexes have their areas of weakness (generally, women: physically and men: emotinally) and we can only overcome this by working together.

and.... You sound very angry. are you being sued for sexual harassment or what?

I think your views and ideas are a bit distorted. Have you seen any prostitutes lately? Women should be able to dress as they choose and they may get looks or stares. However, there choice of dress does not mean it is an open door to harassment. Men are not animals they are human beings. So, should possess control over themselves. As far as getting hit on, oh well, one does not have to be dressed in provocative manner to be hit on. And a gentlemen would not be offended when he was told no. Sounds like you have some issues with females. God bless****

Substance didn't say that women can 'do whatever they want', she said they can 'dress in whatever way they want', and the fact that YOU consider provocative dress 'whorish' is YOUR issue, not theirs. Perhaps however you also imagine that only women who dress provocatively get harrassed sexually? Wrong again.

The basic idea here, is that sexual harrassment is wrong regardless of how the target is dressed. Is it understandable that some men cannot resist acting out when confronted by a desireable woman? Yes, it's understandable, but that doesn't excuse it, that only explains it.

Getting "hit on" is different from sexual harrassment.

Society encourages women to wear sexy clothes, the same way it encourages women to be super thin. We can't blame individual women for wanting to wear sexy clothes when the media portrays it as the norm.

Men act like whores all the time, boasting about how many sex partners they have had, and they generally don't get sexually harrassed.

Even if a woman is walking around stark naked, that doesn't give anyone the right to harrass her.
