You're hearing the truth. That IS what people typically do to celebrate turning 21... they get so drunk they become ill. How fun, right?
If you are turning 21, let me suggest to you... if you'd like to try your hand at being "legal" for ordering drinks for the first time... that you go to a restaurant (like Legal Seafood or many others) that offers a "flight" of beer or wine. Many brewhouses do this... so do many nice restaurants.
Have a good meal... have a "flight" of wine or beer to accompany that meal - this is a platter that has a selection of small servings of many wines or beers so you can taste several (usually about 6) to see what you like best. Then of course, you're always free to order a normal sized glass of whatever you liked the best :)
It's a nice way to taste test new things... and compare what you like and don't like... without having to buy a full sized serving of any one thing only to discover you find it to be nasty...
In any event, if you're celebrating, don't drink and drive and have a lovely time with some dear friends... hopefully a group who won't embarrass you to death - lol

This "ribuckeye" character is a piece of work. Check out his answer to the question about tipping for take-out food.
Anyways, for my 21st birthday my friends took me to a club in chicago and kept buying me shot after shot until I puked in the bathroom after only 1 hour and 15 minutes. The good news is since I puked so early in the evening I was still able to continue on partying the rest of the night.

Major way out parties. I know all of my friends & i have all turned 21 in a matter of two monts. What we did was one day we had all went for lunch & than to the bar to drink socialize & play pool (was broken up early due to a friend meeting up in a car crash & passing away), the next weekend was another friend we had all went out to a resturant & than club, next night a resturant with a dance floor. The following weekend was a sit down dinner, a masquarade theme followed by a house party & than club. This weeked is just a few friends going out to a mall & having a good time at tresturant with a dance floor & club.
It just depends what you prefer. I know with us we kinda calming down with the parties due to a friend passing away.
Its what you make of it. Most people wont remember it in 20years time anyways.
I had to cancel my party due to a friends funeral. So i can say i did not have a party for my 21st this year but had a few friends out at a resturant & than the bar after that & than went for bowling when we had herd the news & all just went cold & left

Went to Vegas, played around in the casinos and partied with all my friends at different places getting totally hammered! It was a great mini-vacation from work and another excuse to party! Plus we were all able to drink because none of us drove, we walked the strip and when we felt we were gettin tipsy we went back to our hotel/casino and partied the rest of the night there so that we wouldn't have to worry about walking back. Oh the memories and photos. Wonder who some of the people were in some of the pics. ha ha ha.

The ones I know celebrate by going to a bar and drinking legally. They also usually are hung over the next day.

Go watch an 'R' rated movie, go to a '21 and above bar' to have a few shots of vodka, and have a nice meal with someone special at a good restaurant.

most people go out drinking until they pass out or black out. my 21st birthday, I went to the bar where a lot of my shipmates hung out. by the time I got there, most of them were already drunk, so I ended up as designated driver. happy birthday to me.

perplexing Rock Cafe -or- Planet Hollywood the two are kin friendly, have an extremely exciting ecosystem, and are much less costly. i in my opinion like the foodstuff extra suitable at HRC. once you're into track, bypass with HRC. in case you like video clips, bypass with Planet. satisfied Birthday!
