I'd say a fair few people, though it's impossible to put an exact figure on it......... I can't find any membership figures for the British Astronomical Association, and even if I could it wouldn't account for the many interested in astronomy who aren't members.

A search on Google failed to bring up the viewing figures for popular long running Astronomy TV show "The Sky at Night"..... but still that wouldn't give a true number of how many.

Nor can I find any UK sales figures for ASTRONOMY NOW magazine, or any of the other Astronomy magazines available in the UK

I believe a lot of people are interested in astronomy and in the stars and constellations. More than ever before and people like to look up at the sky and wonder. Today they look at the sky for Christmas.

I couldn't tell you how many. I'm a interested, I have two telescopes, but I don't use them much now. With all the stuff on TV and Internet, whats the point in looking through your own puny t'scope. I live in a suburb where the lights are to bright.

Quite a few (I am one, at least) - but not nearly as many as are interested in celebs etc. Sad.
