Don't believe the disinfo about electric cars polluting. Electric motors are several times more efficient than gas engines. Power plants burn fuel at much higher efficiency than your gas car does. And distributing electricity by wire is far, far more efficient than trucking fuel around the countryside.
*
All these efficiency improvements mean that the EV can travel further on less energy. That means much less pollution per mile, no matter what the power plants burn. Plus, a decent percentage of electricity is now made from non-polluting sources.
*
It's absurdly easy to prove the efficiency argument by looking at fuel costs. It only costs about a tenth as much (in electricity costs, compared to gasoline) to go an equivalent distance in an EV versus a conventional vehicle.
*
As for your government officials, I'm all in favor of embarrassing them into driving electric vehicles. It could only help with EV sales.

Global warming caused by humans is a joke. Anyone who believes this lie, is a fool. There is so much evidence that disproves this hack theory. Just look at some non-government funded research. The government is just using it as a tax grab, and a way to get votes from the ever gullible, ignorant masses. The don't drive economical vehicles because they know it's a farce. Lies the government have been telling are exposed everyday, but everyone believes them about global warming???? What a bunch of dummies!!!

I don't under stand the argument here.
An electric car is fine for limited use, but only over short distances.
An electric car gives off no emissions when you use it, but requires to be charged up somewhere by a source that is making pollution.
A 4 x 4 on the other hand creates more pollution than most cars, most are used in situations that a more atmosphere friendly vehicle could be used so it is right that they pay for the privelidge

Electric powered cars aren't the answer. Sure, they cause little or no pollution at the point of use, but they require fossil fuels to be burned at power stations to generate the electricity - a very inefficient process.
Actually, the government have just given the go-ahead for the country's largest windfarm to be built in the Thames estuary, but it's not very fashionable to give our government credit for getting something right, is it?

They are hypocrites. All the 4 by4 tax has done is legitimise 4 wheel drive use. Drivers can now say to the tree huggers "I pay my tax, I'll drive my 4 by 4 when and where I like. Government ministers should practice what they preach and use public transport. If they had to face what the general public does daily then things might improve.
