What do you think about the ending of the birds? Why do YOU think they attacked, and why do you think they would stop for periods of time? Do you think they went on to attack the world?

I think the "love birds" talked them into it...they looked like jokers to me...EVIL...I think they probably followed where those birds went after the people drove away with them, to take over the world.

some are missing the point of the quetion i think. I know what the ending meant. But if you had to think of what would happen after what would it be? i know there was an alternate ending in which the birds are on the GG bridge. but what would you guess if you had to put a cause to it, what would it be? Before the ending finally got there, what were you guessing the cause of it all was? and what would the resolution had been?

I think it's all the more puzzling for the viewer to not know what the purpose of the birds' attack, and certainly adds more to the mystery; it's great tactic the author of the short story Daphne Du Maurier created which Alfred Hitchcock kept. As it may not really matter, however, my opinion on why it happened is probably linked to something in the air. I think the idea of the love birds talking them into it is just bizarre and senseless, if you may; the epidemic may have been around before the love birds were even on screen, and it may very much not have ended once the movie reached "The End", but perhaps decreased reasonably, judging from the way they seldomly moved while the car got out of the driveway. And to think that they may have taken over the world is just crazy; I don't think the story is of that sort - it's merely a small-scale, yet wild phenomena that ended shortly after it started, considering that it was adapted from a "short" story.

If I recall, the birds just sat there as they drove off. That was what made it so suspensful, because you didn't know if it was coming or not, you thought they might attack, but weren't sure. The point was to portray birds as if they are insane and unpredictable. Truly scary people are never consistent, they may be maniacs one minute and calm the next. Thats what made those birds so crazy.

It was Hitchcock - he always wanted his viewers to be left with blanks to fill in - speculations to be made. Sometimes it drives me nuts with his films.
