OK, quick answer ...

About 14 billion years ago the Universe cooled enough to allow starts to form our of the matter around at the time, Protons and Electrons (ie. Hydrogen). The early stars used Fusion to convert Hydrogen into Helium and other elements (up to Iron).

When the early stars died some went Super Nova and in the process converted Iron into all the other elements we know of. This seeded space with clouds of star dust...

About 4 & a half billion years ago a Super Nova sent shock waves through such a dust cloud and caused it to collapse.

In collapsing most of the material ended in in the middle and formed the Sun. When the Sun ignited most of the remaining dust was blown away. The heavy elements (rock) ended up nearest the Sun and formed the 'inner' Planets (including the Earth). The lighter elemets (gas) ended up further away and formed the outer planets.

We know this because we can see it happening out there right now.

Once a body reaches sufficient mass it forms a sphere (globe). The shape is distorted by rotation (bulge in the middle) and the gravity of any nearby objects (such as the Moon).

Water is Hydrogen and Oxygen (gas) - logically it should all have been blown away when the Sun ignited, however it is thought that Comets fromed in the outer solar system bombarded the earth for a few billion years and this is where the water came from.
