I really don't think he wants an answer to this. I get the impression he's telling you that you're asking him something that's just as silly a question in his opinion .. think back to something you've asked him recently, and that's probably it.

Ok, aside from the obvious impossibilities of this (i.e. lack of oxgyen, getting the string attached to the moon in the first place etc.) , it would be something like this:
The moon is about 250 000 miles away from the Earth.
A snail can travel approximately 10cm per minute.
10 cm is the same as 0.00006214 miles, so it can travel this far in a minute. This means is would take 16092.69391 minutes to travel a mile - this is the same as 261.21 hours, or 10.8375 days. So, multiply this by 250 000, it would take 2709375 days to reach the moon, or 7417 years approximately.
Phew!

Hi there,
you won't believe i had the same question in my mind about a month ago. So I calculated the time for a snail to reach a moon. The moon is 385000 Km away from earth. The speed of the fastest snail living is 0.0483 Km/h. So we can calculate that it will take:
7971014.5 hours i.e. "922 years and 6.5 months" for a snail to reach the moon.
Hope you got the answer. :-)

Lets work this out.
It's about 237,600 miles to the moon.
The worlds fastest snail travels at 0.03mph so it would take 7,920,000 hours to get there.
This is roughly equal to 904 years.
Of course we're assuming this is a super genetically modified snail with the ability to travel without breathing, have kevla skin to avoid burning up in the earths atmosphere, travel up a rope and live for nearly 1000 years!
