I think you should try to carry on your family traditions at your new home..........add a couple new traditions of your own.............play a game.........watch an old movie......drive around and look at Christmas lights.........just chill at home and enjoy the season together.
AND by all means call home and let your families know how much you love and miss them.
That's what we've been doing for the past 5 years.........it gets easier with time. It'll never be the same but it can be just as good!
And remember they miss you just as much as you miss them!
Happy Holidays!

Have a nice Christmas Dinner of whatever you choose. Light some candles and set the table in festive decorations. Put on some Christmas music and just enjoy each other. I'm sure there will be tons of Christmas movies on tv so you both could sit together and watch a few drinking hot chocolate and in your pjs. You both could call each others parents to wish them a Merry Christmas too. If you choose, open the presents you purchased for each other(if you got any).
Just enjoying each others company really is the best way to celebrate Christmas.

My husband and I just moved into our new place. This Christmas I am Making a nice dinner with Turkey and all the fixings (for two with plenty of leftovers I'm sure). I will have some snacks out to munch on during the day. Open a bottle of wine and we will watch Christmas movies and relax.
It sounds so wonderful I can't wait!

Snuggle night would be nice, hot chocolate, or a warm toddy, a Christmas video, or the fireplace lit, matching flannel pajamas [or not, LOL], and warm slippers. A Christmas candle for effect.
Make a nice supper together, something not to complicated, play carols while you cook. And give each other one gift. Get some mistletoe.
Drive around town and see the lights on people's houses.Play a station that has carols while you drive. Have the hot chocolate ready to make when you get back.
sorry you are away from your family, good idea to make a special Eve!

Unwrap each other. Just joking! Cornish hens would work great as opposed to turkey or ham for dinner. Pick any alcohol you two can agree on and maybe rent some funny and/or romantic movies and watch them by the fireside if you have one. Feliz Navidad!

The easiest thing to do is just stay at home and cook for her. If you have kids, rent a hotel and take her out to her favorite place. Ex. if she likes Chinese food, take her to a Chinese restaurant.
You could also carry on with family traditions, but you probably don't want to do that.

Make a meal for someone else who needs it. Like, take a hot meal to the security guards at your local hospital. Or, volunteer to make dinner for the homeless shelter. You will probably have a lot of fun, and will be so busy you won't have time to be homesick.
