No, they are going to do what they always did, put up a smoke screen and flip flop. They ran in election on war issues, now doing their usual thing, but does that really surprise you. Guess we should consider ourself lucky that the Village Idiot from Arkansas has not made it there yet, talk about lust for power, she has it. If by some miscounting of votes, she was to win, we have not seen anything yet. Then it would be a time to be really scared.

Well, the Republican party has had the job now for three years; it's not as if the Democrats came into a sparkling kitchen and started pulling all the pots and pans off the shelves.
I think the Democrats have really good intentions, but I also think the nursing of partisan wounds is really making them reactive to situations instead of sitting down and figuring out what is the BEST solution. And it is a good question: can a foreign power (with a radically different culture and society) do anything more than provide temporary or indirect assistance, without inspiring the ardor of both sides?
Not every country can work with a 'winner-take-all' mentality. I think Iraq seriously needs to discover to what extent it can allow Sunni and Shiite participation, but the American presence is only inflaming the radicals to divert their attention towards us instead of working it out amongst themselves.
In some ways, leaving is dangerous. It could result in some extremist form of Islam taking hold. But, perhaps leaving is the only thing that will force the two sides to start facing each other instead of punching at, and around, each other while America stands in the middle. With no American presence, whom will the militias have to blame their attacks on? The public will eventually tire of the bombings and kidnappings and turn against them, disbanding their power. Revolutions must eventually come from within, not without. When clerics stop looking like heroes to their people, they lose their power to attract soldiers.
All this reminds me of that maxim in the Karate Kid: "walk on left side of road, safe. walk on right side of road, safe. walk in middle, get squished like grape." America is getting squished because it's trying to walk in, and/or create, the middle. The middle is for Iraq to discover.

I think the Democrats are helping in Iraq by challenging the course of the Republicans that is not working. I used to support the Repub position until it occurred to me that, by the way terrorism reigns in Iraq, many Iraqis support radical Islam and are not motivated to support our efforts there. So I see the Democrats helping our cause there to get us to think about doing something different. Given the lack of motivation to support our efforts from some (minority) Iraqi people, I am embarrased we attacked and think we can win. Why don't Republicans see this? Rather than invest so many resources in attacking terrorist, we should be investing 100X the resources we invest in rebuilding their infrastructure and economy. When young Iraqi men have meaningful jobs, terror becomes less attractive. I only wish the Democrats spoke of that. I will continue to pray for peace there and protection of our troops and the innocent there.

No, because the Democrats want to use an American loss in Iraq to 1) destroy the Republican party, 2) end the use of the American military on foreign soil, 3) destroy the Bush presidency, 4) appease fellow European socialists and pacifists, and 5) implement their pacifism.
You might as well ask a dog to meow.

I think they will try now that they have achieved their objective of winning both Houses of Congress.
It is a shame that they were willing (and actually hoping) for things to deteriorate to the level that they did in Iraq, but it was necessary for them to win. Anyone who denies this is being dishonest.
