I've played keyboard for about 5 years. I play songs and riffs for an hour a day but feel I need to be more disiplined as I play only what I want to and not really what I should to improve. Hence I do not feel I am moving forward. Could someone out there help me out with a schedule or advice. I play in a Christain band and we practice weekly and I write some songs but I would really like to get better as I feel I am not moving forward in my playing.

Thanks in advance

Andy

Get some music books of things you don't know how to play and push yourself forward.

I can't recommend what to practice. But It seems like you hit plateaus in your playing no matter what instrument your playing. You play along a certain level on that plateau for what seems to be forever and then all of sudden you get a whole lot better better fast, and then hit another plateau. Don't get discouraged, it is supposed to be for enjoyment.
If the improvements you want are knowledge based then you know what to seek. If it is dexterity then put together some riffs that challenge you there.
Sometimes exposure to other music styles can can help get you to the next level. Try some jazz or stride piano styles. good luck
