the light is telling you that you have a fault, from your description i would say that one of your coils is playing up, this vehicle use four individual coil straight on to the spark plugs, get a diagnostic done to confirm this and then buy a set of coil from G.S.F (loads cheaper than the main dealer).

Sounds like there is probably a short or a part trying to die on the car. You need to have the computer scanned, that should atleast point the technician in the right direction. Should you continue to drive this car it WILL leave you stranded in the near future.
The repair may not neccesarily be exspensive, but waiting until it dies and has to be towed very well could be.

having the same problem on mrs clio not the warning light but the diesel plug light and its not a diesel when it comes on the cars rev counter bounces up and down and car stalls if stuck in trafic or slowing down goes off if on a stretch of road but then keeps comming and going its booked into renault tomorrow for a dianogstic so if u want can let you know what they say prob is

You need to have the computer checked for codes showing the problem. Autozone, and Advanced auto have helped me several times saving me about 80 to 100 dollars that a dealer or mechanic will charge you.

if the engine management light is on you need to take it to the garage, they'll plug it in to the computer and diagnose it straight away.
