scary!! just for a minute i was back there with that feeling - i don`t envy you - although i`m sure you don`t want to hear that!!!
go along with it, and get hubby to buy you a really hot curry tonight, and follow that with a bit of nookie... cos i`m sure you really feel like that (not!!!). being your third, it may all go quite quick once it`s started, as your body already knows what to do... and if my third child is anything to go by you`ll end up with a lovely placid child - mine is so laid back i often forget he`s there... but don`t call social services!!

I have had the sweep twice and it did work on my second baby. For my first I didn't really progress and had to be induced with the drip. A sweep is really a hit and miss, if the baby is nearly ready to come then it will work but if the baby doesn't want to come out then it won't. You might have a better chance as this will be your third baby. If it is going to work you will know after 24-48 hours. After you have had it done try to increase your chance of labour. My friend went for a hot curry then her husband drove over cobbles on the road and it worked.
Try not to worry, I know it's the worst time of year to be in hospital but what will be will be and all that matters is you have a healthy baby at the end.

i had 2 sweeps, once on my due date, then again a week later. I went into labour 3 days after the second sweep. I found it uncomfortable but NOT painful - the whole experience is different for everyone. I felt no pain when i was examined in labour either but the contractions were so bad i had to have an epidural for those.
By the way, my midwife was renown for her stretch and sweep procedures - she had less overdue babies that ANY other midwife in her team!!

I had three lots of induction gel and they never worked. I then had a sweep and within an hour the contractions had started. When I was taken to delivery I was put on a drip to induce labour. All in all I began having contractions at 7:30 pm and was only in active labour for 1hr 35 mins and gave birth at 2:41am. Everyone is different but the sweep definately worked for me.

I had 3 stretch and sweeps as we were trying to get everything started because I wanted a home birth, in the end I was 12 days late and had to go to hospital to be induced! I had a quick birth without any complications.
I dont think they work, I dont know why they make you go through something like that, it isnt pleasant having a women sticking her fingers inside you, a little embarresing perhaps! But heyhoh they are trying to get the baby out.
Dont worry, it doesnt hurt just look at the ceiling and pretend it isnt happening!
Good luck.

It will only work if your nearly ready to go into labour the same is true of pessaries. Before they try anything your midwife will asses your cervix to see if it is soft. If you are scared of being in hospital over christmas tell the midwife and get them to explain exactly what will happen if the procedure doesn't work.Try some of the other suggestions given
The sweep can be uncomfortable again this depends on how ready you are to go into labour
Hopefully you will be home enjoying christmas with you new baby.

The day before I would have been induced, I walked a lot. And at 1:15 that morning I went into labour. The walking sure did the trick. Unfortunately I don't know about any of the induction ways, but it depends on the hospital on what way they use! Good luck and enjoy the baby!

a sweep does help even when your in labour and having contractions it helps you to dilate quicker. i would try it first as it's not painful and there are no drugs involved and resort to drugs if you need to, but you would know within an hour if the sweep has worked yourself and they would be able to do another examination 4 hours later. so worth a try?

It is horrid, very uncomfortable, but the good news is it doesn't take long.
"Walking " the cervix is not painful and it does work, inducing labbour means you will probably have a longer first stage of labour.
Take DVDs and mags to read as you will be laying about in hospital for a while.
As you know from having two girls, it is worth it
