Literally the same, the only thing is that iPod is a brand name of an mp3 player.

The main difference being that with an iPod you can only download music onto it from Itunes. Where as with an MP3 player you can do it from anywhere.

Think of an Ipod as Kleenex... A MP3 player as facial tissue. Its just a brand name. All MP3 files can be stored on any MP3 player or WMA, MP4, AVI etc, etc...depending on the player...they are all basically mass storage devices.
