It is going to be a tropical type terrarium, sef-sustaining is what is most important to me.There is not already a specie of ants or plants I have decided to put in the terrarium. I plan to just dig somewhere for the ants and Queen Ant(Not termite of course). I am still wondering about the plants.Thank you in advance for your helpful answers.

You can put just about any small plant you want in a terrarium. They'll stay small because of the limited growing room. Ants.....might be too moist an environment for them. Here are some plant links:

A terrarium and an ant colony in the same space???? I am not so sure about that. Ants eat some leaves and some could probably be toxic to them..

Ant colonies usually don't have plants in them.

Plant any moisture loving plants in your terrarium. Be sure to read all labeling at your favorite nursery. Google terrarium plants for a list of good plants.

Happy Holidays.
