I really like Kangaroos and wallabies, is it possible to get one as a pet? Obviously they require a lot of land, but i can get that. Do you need a special license? If this isn't possible, where can you adopt or sponsor one?

Wild animals do not generally make good pets, they are specialist animals and should really be looked after by professionals who have access to the proper veterinary treatment and equipment. Wallabies can be kept as pets, but they are generally happier as a group of animals.

If you have a local zoo or wildlife park that keeps kangaroos or wallabies why not contact them about animal adoption. If you show a real interest and sweet talk the keepers then you should be able to arrange to visit with the animals on a regular basis. This is a much more satisfactory arrangement for all concerned - you get to interact with the animals and the animals get the best possible care.

Adelaide zoo requires people to adopt animals so they can exist. Try ADELAIDE ZOOin Australia Adelaide Zoo Frome Road North Adelaide in Australia. It would be illegal to buy kangaroos and wallabies.

Kangaroos can and will beat the crap out of you. They are excellent boxers. I would put their skill rate at a good ranking amateur. They have a knock out punch and could kill you. I have seen tapes of people getting soundly pummeled. There is a further irony to these beatings, they fight just like humans and they win: how insulting. If they get an advantage they can give a powerful kick with their hind legs, even a death blow. Nothing cute about them.

the only way i know of having a kangaroo as a "short term pet" is to save a wild one this is sick, injured or a joey that has lost it mother via pet rescue but when it is well it has to be released back into the wild unless has been in the rescue for a long time... call the wildlife foundation in your area and enquire through them..........good luck!

Everyone seems to think that you're in USA - in which case, why are you asking your question in the UK/Ireland questions only section - but if you ARE in the UK, remember that Harrods say they can get ANYTHING for you!
The only problem is you won't be allowed to have one here unless you own a zoo.
