I dont think he deserved it because there are other players currently who are playing much better than him for their country and club for example:
ronaldinho
lampard
terry
kaka
gerrard
c. ronaldo
rooney

yes YES Cannavaro deserved the award...with 498 points.. 'It is not normal for a defender to be sitting between Zinedine Zidane (Three times winner) and Ronaldinho (Twice winner).. Fabio Cannavaro is the only defender in football history to be named the FIFA World Player of the Year ....and he is the only one who truely deserved the award...
