I have started taking sanatogen omega 3 & pronatal ten days ago (when I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant) & the last few days I have had a bit of an upset tummy. I have sickness anyway so I can't be sure the 2 are related. But otherwise I feel fine.

I took sanatogen when pregnant with my second. I had horrendous 'morning' sickness and tummy ache. I think now that it was to do with the very high iron levels in their vitamin.

With my third ( and now 27 weeks fourth) I have taken pregnacare, I found this much better. I was not as sick and had no tummy problems. The amount of iron in pregnacare is at much lower levels. I am slightly anaemic so I top this up with 'Spa tone' liquid iron that is natural and easily absorbed, you add it to juice and I buy it from Holland and Barret (in the UK).
Other iron preparations are known for causing tummy upsets, constipation and sickness.

On the other hand it could be a virus - they are going around at the moment.

It is also important to eat your vitamins with meals - although you probably already do this!

Vitamins have made everyone I know have an upset tummy while pregnant. The only thing to do is find a time that doesnt make you so upset, OR switch to a diff prenatal. Dont listen to anyone who tells you not to take your vitamins they are important while pregnant! I tried 4 different brands until I found one I could tolerate. I also had to take it with a snack and milk just before bed time. It was the only way for me. Try taking it with different meals during the day, try breakfast one day, lunch the next ect... see what works for you . Good luck and congrats.

Some pregnant women do have trouble tolerating certain prenatal supplements, particularly those that contain a lot of iron. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all pregnant women take a daily supplement containing 30 milligrams (mg) of iron, but some prenatal vitamins contain more than that. So check the label — if your vitamin contains more than 30 mg of iron you can switch to one with 30 mg, as long as you're not anemic. Ask your healthcare provider to recommend one.

You can also try taking your prenatal vitamin with food or just before bed. Or break the tablet in half and take it in divided doses. If none of these measures help, ask your provider whether you can switch to a prenatal vitamin without iron during your first trimester if you work on increasing your iron consumption from food sources.

It's unlikely that the vitamins are causing your upset tummy, but try taking them with meals. The iron can cause problems for some women. You could try switching to a brand with less iron.
Unfortunately it's not true that a balanced diet will give you all the vitamins you need - that is why the government recommends that all pregnant women take folic acid - it's because no matter how good our diets are, it's very poorly absorbed and deficiency is very common. In pregnancy you need extra vitamins, so please continue taking them.

The only way to be sure Sammy is to stop the vitamins and see if the nausea ceases. If you are eating the right foods in the right proportions, you shouldn't need to take vitamin suppliments. Omega 3 is found in fish like Salmon and Trout. The rest are found in fruit and veg.
For morning sickness I recommend eating a couple of Ginger Biscuits, they will help settle it.

It would be better if you asked your doctor about a thing like this, after all as you say you are pregnant, so you need the best advice from a professional so you can be sure your little bundle is safe, good luck and Merry Christmas.

The prenatal vits gave me a hard time. They really can upset your stomach.

Try cut it in half and take one half during the morning and the other later. It worked for me. (Of course, the ones I took were the ones that can be broken into two parts.)

I have to take iron tablets and they used to give me big - runny - problems. It helps a lot now I take them after cereal in the morning.
