for a long time it has always been Connery, simply because he's the one that made me love that franchise and quite frankly i didn't acknowledge anyone else until Brosnan. However now that the new Bond flick is out I'd have to say that Craig is definitely the new Bond. I like the way they have revised the character and he's a Brit so there's a plus. Also Craig just shows the Physicality, brutality, and brilliance it takes to be a double O and he truly embodies the role of Bond, James Bond. If you haven't seen this one, do so. It is a well directed movie and really shows how Bond became Bond and Craig was the one to do it.

Sean Connery, the best and the sexiest. He is just a great actor, calm, cool and collected as james bond. Roger Moore would be my second choice for he also has the james bond trait.

No question in my mind. Sean Connery. He not only was the greatest actor to get the part, he defined the role better than any of the others have.
My second choice would have to be Pierce Brosnan, followed by Roger Moore.

I think for a lot of fans it depends on who you started with.
My mom was a 007 fan from the start. The first movie she took me to see when I was growing up was Spy Who Loved Me, so I stared from that point with Roger Moore. As such, I had no idea who Connery was, and didn't watch any of his movies until later on. So I have no real attachment to Connery as a lot of fans do that were with the movies from the start.
I'd have to say my favorite is Brosnan, because like many I felt he'd be perfect for it when he debuted as Remington Steele.
That being said, although he might fit the traditional or expected "image" of 007, Craig did blow me away in Casino Royale. He had the attitude, and the physicality that the previous 007 lacked. It's much more believeable to see someone built like Craig doing the fighting, stunts, sports, etc that 007 does.
I am withholding judgement until his next outing. If he brings more of the same in the next movie, he'll knock Brosnan down to #2 on my list.

Well, Connery was the best BOND, but the BEST ACTOR who ever played a role as Bond (as your question is worded) is Peter Sellers :-) (Yes he WAS Bond, in the original Casino Royal)

This is not a popular answer but I think that Timothy Dalton came the closest to the way Bond was described in the books and was an edgy Bond.

Sean Connery...because he was the only one who could actually act like he was a killer. Funny thing is..Ian Fleming wanted Roger Moore from the start.
