Science does not act on happiness of the individual, certainly in his comfort and discomfort. Comfort from the findings which serve for mankind and discomfort due to the side-effects or byproducts from the inventions. The struggle to go one step forward through science is the satisfaction derived by the scientist and when this serves society it gives him a happiness that cannot be measured. However happiness and sadness due to attitudes are also subjects of study in science. May be the answer will close the gap between a few who are happy and the many who are sad at present, towards happiness.

Science is a field of study in pursuit of material, physical truth. It is not meant to make us feel anything. What it is meant to do is help us understand the world around us. Problems arise when we extrapolate and come to the conclusion that since science can only study the material, physical world than that is all there is. Science is limited. It seeks only to ascertain material truths. But we are best served when we humbly admit that there is more to our world than what meets the eye. Science does not have all the answers, nor does it claim to.

Science is NOT meant to make us happier: it is the pure search for truth.
Its fallouts is that it makes our lives easier, somehow.
Unfortunately, these very same fallouts are used by unscrupulous people, essentially governments, to make our lives harder, and hence, more miserable.
A chip in our body is a great scientific invention, since in case of accident, all our medical history is there to help us.
But if and when it contains our "criminal" record or our late tax payments...
I move to countries where these fallouts are NOT in practice.
I loose the advantages, but the bad side of science is not worth the good side, ant it is THAT, that make thinking people sad...

Science is not responsible for your attitudes. You are.

Science is a method of understanding the world. If knowledge makes you sad, are you saying that you want to stay ignorant? Wouldn't that be sadder?

Science gives people more control over their lives. That appears to be a good thing to me. I don't want to be a victim of ignorant people.

Science isn't really here to make us happy. Its the pursuit of truth and factual information. its more.... of a way to explain how things occur. We dont all become more and more sad, sorry if this happens to be your case bud.

Science is not about happiness. It's set of theories trying to give explanations about the world and make predictions. If they succeed, we trust them. If they don't, we look for better ones.

uh? You have to let yourself be happy. I can honestly say science has never made me sad, oh, except double physics at high school with the dreaded Mr Kerrigan - that was pretty sad!
