Statistics are only part of the story of why Anaheim is on top of the league right now.

They have the hottest goalie going right now in Giguere, two of the top three defensemen in the league in Niedermayer and Pronger, and the young forwards are all maturing at the same time (Chris Kunitz? Are you kidding me?).

The wind is starting to fall out of the Sabres' sails. Teams to watch in the second half are Montreal and Nashville (with or without Vokoun).

As a huge Calgary Flames fan, I have to say the Anaheim Ducks. They are riding a good streak on, even with injuries to their starting goalie and back-ups. Combine that with the fact they battle the Sharks 8 times this year, have the hectic travel schedule that the Eastern teams couldn't handle, and have to play the NW teams 4 times each season (2 times on the road....just ask the Hurricanes about that jaunt), and the Ducks are showing the NHL that the best is in the West!!

I'd love to say the Sabres because I am a Buffalo girl all the way. But, they've been slowing down and losing their momentum the last few games. I have to say Anaheim for now (they are the point leaders), but I expect Buffalo to pull back ahead before the regular season is over.

lots as I hate to confess it, those Montreal communities already suggested are the reason I dislike the Canadiens lots. They constantly won!!! i replaced right into a Ranger fan and adverse Eddie G and rod Gilbert in basic terms observed photos of the Cup, sigh. I lived in Edmonton during the WHA and Gretzky/Messier years and would have enjoyed to make certain that juggernaut against those Montreal communities, yet to be forthright, the Islanders got here nearer to being the terrific than Edmonton. way too many 9-6, video games from the Oilers to compete defensively with those Montreal communities. Heck, they beat Orr and Esposito of their primes, lost as nicely(extra that for the Bruin followers). The checklist of 8 losses in a season would be around for an prolonged time so Montreal 1977, perfect of all time. rattling, won't be able to have faith i pronounced that....

top 5 teams in the NHL as of now:

1- Anaheim 36 GP 58 PTS
2- Buffalo 33 GP 50 PTS
3- San Jose 34 GP 48 PTS
4- Nashville 33 GP 47 PTS
5- Montreal 33 GP 45 PTS

i don't think Giguere is a top goalie i think he gets allot of help from his defence that are great, but he only faces like an avg. of 20 shots a game to the likes of Huet facing 30 to 40 shots a game, if the Habs can put the number of shots down against then they would even be better then they are right now, and they are really good right now.

The Ducks. And I'm not going to hype my team (Stars) because their not the best team. In the top 5, yes, not the best tho. The ducks are doing fabulously and have flourished along with most of the Pacific division, the hardest and hottest team in the league.

Right now its got to be the Ducks. Hate to say it, but it's true. The team inspired by Mickey Mouse is leading the NHL.

"He who stops the puck, rules the world". Especially in a game that has 120,000 penalty calls a night.

The best teams at not letting in goals are the teams to look at and right now that's Detroit and San Jose. Lowest goals scored on each at 73. Tied for NHL best.

Did you know there is a penalty for "starting the wrong line-up"?.
HA!! What a joke!!

Starting the wrong lineup:
This very rare minor penalty is called when the offending team fails to put the starting lineup on the ice at the beginning of each period, the exception being injuries. For this penalty to be called, the captain of the non-offending team must bring this breach of the rules to the referee's attention immediately at the first stoppage of play.
