I am currently 8 weeks 5 days pregnant. Before I got pregnant, I had several ultrasounds done because I had a tiny but harmless fibrosis. This was done at my local hospital. Yesterday was my final check up with the doctor regarding my fibrosis and I told her that I had gotten pregnant during that time, but she did an ultrasound anyhow just to make sure - and we got to see the baby too in the process. (My last scan with her was about 10 weeks ago, before I was pregnant). Anyway, tomorrow I have another appointment with my gynae (another doctor at a private clinic), who usually does my monthly pregnancy checkup.

I know she is going to do an ultrasound tomorrow because she had said so from our last meet. What concerns me is that, is this too soon to be a having another ultrasound in a span of three days? Is there such a thing as too much ultrasound? Will this harm my baby in any way? Should I tell my gynae about my recently done ultrasound for my fibrosis? What should I do? Please help

The safety of ultrasounds is something people argue about. I doubt there has been much research into women having as many ultrasounds as you have, so you need to exercise some caution, and you definitely need to tell your gynae about your recent ultrasound work.
If you are concerned, let your doctor know. I don't see any need for you to be having this many ultrasounds for your pregnancy. Where I live, 2 ultrasounds throughout the whole pregnancy is standard procedure. The risks are seen to outweigh the benefits if you have more.

the ordinary ultrasounds are 'moderately trustworthy' which means they do not pose a 'colossal' danger to the youngster. The advantages almost outweigh the hazards. Nevertheless, you don't have ultrasounds until wanted as they undoubtedly don't seem to be with out danger. Remember years in the past in addition they idea x rays have been trustworthy.. these days no less than so much medical professionals do inform you approximately the hazards of ultrasound. At least mine did. Four remains to be inside trustworthy limits. But keep away from the ones new 3D ultrasounds.. they use a mega dose of ultrasound and they're NOT trustworthy. There has been a lot controversy and lots of locations are refusing to do them, handiest the extra benefit oriented locations. Go forward and feature this ultrasound... 4 is okay.

It depends on why she wants the ultrasound. Usually, ultrasound done for dating purposes is somewhere around 19 weeks. Ask you OB.

No, ultrasound will not hurt the baby. There is only sound involved (you can't hear it). No X-rays are produced. Don't worry about the test, its safe and non-invasive; and if your doc wants it, its probably for a good reason. Congrats.

YES If you have too many ultrasounds IT WILL harm your baby!!! They're not as safe as we thought. As little as 2 minutes causes the tissues and bones to heat up - the brain is especially vulnerable, particularly in the later stages when the brain is actually developing. So unless medically nessasary you should only have 2 during your entire pregnancy, the first one is to confirm your dates and the second is to measure the baby at around 20 weeks, I never had the first one just the second one so I will only have one u/s for my entire pregnancy.

Some say there is some harm potentially done by U/S. Much of this information is new and forthcoming.

You should remember that you are the one in control here and if it makes you uncomfortable, opt to reschedule either ultrasound. Remember that doctors work for us and are providing services that we pay for, so you have very right to have a say in what kinds of tests you take and their frequency.

What are the risks associated with routine ultrasound for low-risk pregnancies?

In general the most authoritative studies of the long term effects of being exposed to ultrasound during fetal life are reassuring. A Swedish study, for example, involved 19 prenatal care clinics and more than 4000 children.(1) After randomization (after drawing lots) only the pregnant women belonging to the 'screening group' were offered a scan at 15 weeks. After follow-up of the children, no statistically significant differences in body weight or height at 1, 4, 7 years of age between exposed and unexposed children were found. There were no differences either in terms of impaired vision or hearing during childhood.
However there are studies suggesting that exposure to ultrasound during fetal life is not completely neutral. This is the case of a large Australian study. It appeared, after analyzing thousands of cases, that frequent exposure to ultrasound tends to restrict fetal growth.(2) Such results confirmed the results of studies with pregnant monkeys scanned with doses used in human medicine.(3) This is also the case of several Scandinavian studies showing that exposure to ultrasound tends to slightly modify the proportion of right-handed and 'non right-handed' children.(4,5)
Since exposure to ultrasound during fetal life is not completely neutral, the selective use of scans should be preferred to routine scans. There are reasons to be cautious but, in the scientific context of 2003, one cannot refer to documented real complications.

i would imagine that it isn't too great if you get a lot (like 2-3 a week) but i cant see ultrasound being any worse than listening to the radio loud or standing next to the microwave.

Ultrasound isn't like X-rays. It's not as invasive, and more importantly, not cummulative. It's just sound waves. Don't worry about it.
