i want to buy a new laptop next year and i am wondering if any good brand-name company's have any laptops with the new blu-ray hd-dvd players installed on them...if so are they overly expensive...and who carries them?

Yes, Sony has a laptop with Blu-Ray support (the VAIO VGN-AR270). The price starts on their site at $2589.99 USD.

Just to clarify, the Blu-Ray player is different from a HD-DVD player, so don't think you'll be getting both with the one player.

As for where you can get one, I just saw the AR290 on Best Buy's website ($2699.99 USD).

Sony has blu-ray notebooks and TOSHIBA has HD-DVD notebooks.

I believe ASUS also has both, or at least one or the other.

There are no drives that support both formats.

As of now, they're ridiculously expensive and next to useless. Wait a while.

Yes they do -Sony ones mainly ;O)

Check out the Vaio website for more info. Things like the Sony Vaio AR21s are about £1500 but I think samsung do one too

They are pretty expensive but not much more than a standard BR player!

not yet but there is a rumor that sony is comming out with a new vaio laptop which can play blu-ray disks
