Its going to be 20 degrees out and my friend yesterday tore the stuffing out of my jacket. Do you think the coat will be warm if I take the stuffing and put it back in the coat and put a piece of duct tape on the outside to close the rip? I don't own any sweatshirts or hoodies, just tshirts and I think walking to school tomorrow I will be shivering the whole way there. :o(

Sounds fine.

Stuff the stuffing in and make sure it is spread out and fluffed up. It is the trapped airspaces that 'insulate' and keep you warm.

the duct tape is a good idea for a temporary repair. It's water resistant and fairly durable. We never go camping without it! tough enough to repair a torn fiberglass canoe, and flexible enough for shoes and backpacks!

However, if you want to be able to have the jacket patched or repaired - go easy with the duct tape - just seal up the tear. the glue can be hard to remove and removing the tape may pull apart more of the torn edge or stuffing.

Do have it repaired ifyou can - if you can't find a seamstress who can do it, you may be able to find some tent repair tape at a camping store or online. this will work like the duct tape, but you might be able to find it in a color to match yur coat, and it would be lighter weight and not as 'gooey' glue. They often have a 'heat seal' adhesive that will last longer thean the duct tape for the long run.

PS - this kid isn't your 'friend' he or his parents should pay to have your coat repaired!

why the hell did your friend do that? that's lame.

try it if you have no other options for having something warm, but make it look discreet. don't use the whole roll, just tape some here and there, where it's supposed to go, and don't make it look very bulky (not more than it used to). maybe someone has a jacket you could borrow for tomarrow. i'd make that friend of yours buy you a new jacket of the same value. also, layer up on your tees, and if it looks too bulky, take the extras off in the bathroom before school starts and put them in your locker or backpack or whatever, then put them back on when you're going home. but definitly, go out and get your self a new jacket as soon as possible!

Sure! You could also try to get some thread and a needle and stitch it up instead if you want. Or maybe you can borrow a jacket from someone else.

It would be cool to make a duct tape jacket and matching wallet...

I think anything is better than freezing. Go for it. But when you can, buy a new coat.

Stay warm.

It's worth a shot, but I would try and find another jacket. Good luck!
